Apple's 2022 smartwatch lineup is expected to include three models: Apple Watch Series 8, the budget Apple Watch SE model, and a rugged model said to called Apple Watch Explorer edition.

The Apple Watch SE 2022 edition is likely to have the same screen size as the 2020 model, meaning its display will be 1.78-inch.

Apple Watch SE is rumored to pack the new S8 chip. It is expected to be considerably faster than the current model that runs on S5 chip.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the current Apple Watch SE model may replace Apple Watch Series 3 and get the same price point. Apple Watch SE 2020 supports WatchOS9.

Apple Watch Explorer Edition will be the new model aimed at athletes. It is likely to offer all the same functions as the standard model but will be more rugged. This means will offer extra impact resistance and protection. It may feature a rubberized exterior.

Apple Watch Series 8 is likely to come with body-temperature sensor, this is said to be the biggest new addition. Other new features include low-power mode which will let it run some apps and features without using as much battery life.

Apple Watch Series 8 to come with new design, which includes a flat screen and squared-off edges. Apple introduced new sizes with Apple Watch Series 7 (41mm and 45mm), it is unlikely that these may change again this year.
