Supermarkets across the country have withdrawn food items including cooked chicken, chocolate and lager amid fears they could prove a hazard to some people's health, with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) issuing alerts about items including chicken goujons, pastries, pasta, beer and fish, reports KentLive.

Product recalls occur when there may be an issue with the food item that means it should not be sold - this could be in relation to various potential dangers including contamination, misleading or incorrect labels and allergens.

Reasons for the current recalls include erroneous ingredients, contaminants including small pieces of glass and metal, and wrong 'use-by' dates. The items to be recalled include food and drink from leading supermarkets including Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi, Co-op, Iceland and Waitrose.

Here are some of the items currently under recall...

Morrisons is recalling several breaded chicken products because they may contain small pieces of glass, making them unsafe to eat.

A spokesperson said: "Please do not eat this product and return it to your nearest store for a full refund . We don't need a receipt. No other products are affected by this issue.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety."

Lidl GB is extending the recall of Starovice Czech Lager 5.0% to include additional date codes because it contains sulphur dioxide which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites.

A spokesperson said: "Lidl GB is recalling the above product from customers and been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."
